Sidewalk Snow Removal: Snow and ice on sidewalks create a major safety hazard for pedestrians. Aurora has a snow shoveling code. Residents, business owners and property owners are responsible for clearing public sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow fall ends. This includes any adjacent sidewalks to your property including those outside the fence. Failure to clear your walk may result in a fine for each day the walk is not cleared and a court summons.
What are your responsibilities when it snows?
Residents, HOAs and /or property management companies must shovel all public sidewalks adjacent to their property as often as needed to keep the sidewalks clear of snow and ice. If your property is on a corner or abuts a sidewalk on the back or side, you are responsible for all of those sidewalks - not just the one in front of your property.
When snow melts during the day and freezes at night, you are responsible for removing the ice by shoveling or applying the appropriate products to keep the ice from being a hazard to people using the sidewalk.
If you have special needs and require assistance, would like to report property owners who don't shovel, or have any questions, e-mail access@auroragov.org or call Access Aurora at (303) 739-7000.Visit the city of Aurora Municipal Code web page for the complete text of this ordinance. Snow must be removed from public sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow fall. When a snow emergency is declared, this deadline is extended to 48 hours. In those special locations where the city snowplows have added to the natural accumulation on sidewalks, the deadlines are extended an additional 24 hours.
Violators may be ticketed for each day sidewalks are not cleared.
